Description: Achieving Buddhahood as set forth in the Sutra path requires methodical and continuous application over countless lifetimes. Instead, in Tantra teachings it is argued that one can attain complete Buddhahood, or enlightenment, in few lifetimes, and if the conditions are right, even in one lifetime. Without a good understanding of the Sutra path, however, tantra practice has no meaning. For Tantric practice, which is part of the Mahayana path, it is essential to cultivate the mind of great compassion (Bodhicitta), i.e., the desire that all sentient beings can attain liberation.
