dc.description.enIn the 8th century the Indian monk Shantideva composed a masterpiece in verse: the Bodhisattvacaryavatara (translated as “A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life”), the clearest and simplest text ever written on how to become a bodhisattva, one who aspires to attain the ultimate enlightenment solely for the benefit of others. Since then this text has been the basis of the Mahayana Buddhist practice in India, afterwards in Tibet and nowadays in the West; a precise manual on how an individual daily engages in the compassionate conduct.
