Description:	"Calm abiding" (Sanskrit: Samatha) is the basic technique for any high inner attainment. HH Dalai Lama says, “The nature of the calm state is distraction-free focus on an object coupled with happy physical and mental docility. Integrated with taking refuge is a Buddhist practice, and integrated with the aspiration to achieve ultimate enlightenment in the interest of all sentient beings is a Mahayana practice. Its value is that reaching the state of calm the mind and body are pervaded with joy and bliss, and on the basis of physical and mental docility the mind can be focused on any virtuous object. With this practice many particular qualities, like clairvoyance, can be acquired.
